Index to mineral core stored by the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety. This mineral drillcore is usually obtained from mineral exploration companies and is selected on the basis of a number of geological criteria and the need to promote the mineral prospectivity of Western Australia. The core libraries in Perth and Kalgoorlie are only capable of storing 2 to 5% of core drilled each year in Western Australia, and once stored is available for public viewing. Information on drillcore is usually sourced from WAMEX reports (company exploration reports) submitted to the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety. The accuracy of such information is not routinely checked.
This dataset was formally known as Mineral Drill Holes (DMP-002).
